I started to be interested in landscape photography in the summer of 2001. I was in Sicily for my summer holidays and on 17 July Mount Etna started one of the biggest eruptions recorded in the last 300 years. I was truly mesmerised by such a powerful event. At that time, armed with a point-and-shoot camera, I simply failed to do justice to the sense of awe that I witnessed in person. From then on I was hooked. I wanted to learn more about photography and in particular about capturing the beauty of nature.
Several years have passed by since that memorable summer and photography remains one of my biggest passions. I have learned a lot during these years and still discovering new exciting techniques. Importantly I feel more confident about my own photography style and technique.
All images at GRGalleries have been created using Canon digital cameras and several professional-grade lenses. In the following, there is a list of gear that is always in Giovanni's camera bag:

Canon 75-300DO IS f/3.5-5 Lens

Another event that changed my (photographic) life was a week-visit to Snowdonia National Park in North Wales at the end of August 2007. For the first time, I started to see through the camera's eye anticipating how the final image would look on a monitor and ultimately as a print. All the photographic notions that I have learned in these years started to materialise as a consistently high-quality portfolio of images. Since then I have returned several times to North Wales collecting a growing series of images from this remarkably beautiful and inspiring place. My photographic journey has taken me to other places, including Norway, Sicily, and Scotland, from where I have returned with great pictures which reflect my view of the natural beauty of these regions.
A year later, in August 2008 I decided to put together the images collected in this past year and made them available through GRGalleries for you to enjoy.
As for April 2009, I'm working as Senior Researcher at Create-Net in Trento, Italy. Having the Dolomites as my backyard provides me with lots of photographic opportunities.
